In the paper the intercultural twinning described involved an exchange activity at UQAM between francophone student teachers and immigrants learning French as a Second Language (FSL) in the Language School. For the francophones, this form of intercultural twinning enables them to interact with people from different cultures. For the non-French-speaking immigrants, the activity provides an opportunity to practice their French and get to know their host society. In other words, ethnocultural diversity is not seen as a problem, but rather as a resource to share. In this paper, we discuss the context of immigration in Quebec, theoretical and methodological issues, and the impact on the personal and professional lives of the students. Both groups benefit by developing their sensitivity, their empathy and their intercultural communication skills.
